I recently watch the historical movie "The Battle of Britain". With the fate of Great Britain hanging on the battle outcome, the Spitfire fighter pilots were getting ready for a mission. Asked how much flight experience they had, one said "10 hours" the other "7 hours". Moral: when the system needs workers it will lower experience requirements. Ten years of experience to do a job well done with a year or two of experience, that's a message to avoid that field like the plague.

They NEED those ten years for TA work and other menial dogshit the tenured people won't touch with a 60 foot pole. That decade also gets the grad-student/starter prof to the numb level of "yes sir, yes sir three bags full sir"; in other words - indoctrination.
